A tracking number can make an order look shipped even when the goods have not moved. Buyers in forums often describe a supplier who uploads tracking close to a deadline, while the carrier page only says label created, information received, or shipment data submitted. The buyer then worries that the dispute window may close before the real status is clear.
The important distinction is between a tracking number and transport evidence. A number alone is not proof that cartons were collected, customs cleared, or delivered.
What to ask for
- Pickup receipt from the forwarder or courier.
- Warehouse handover photo with carton labels visible.
- Carrier scan showing physical acceptance.
- Bill of lading, waybill, or delivery order when applicable.
- Updated packing list matching carton count and weight.
The same logic appears in tracking appears only after dispute. For freight planning beyond platform tracking, DDPexpert’s China freight forwarder guide explains why buyer-side logistics evidence matters.
Protect the timeline
If the platform has a dispute or refund deadline, save screenshots daily. Capture the order page, promised ship date, carrier tracking page, chat messages, and any supplier explanation. Do not wait until the final day if the tracking remains inactive.
Buyers should ask a precise question: has the carrier physically received the cartons, and can the supplier show proof? If the answer is only that the tracking number exists, the buyer should treat the shipment as unproven.
When shipment proof is unclear
Sometimes the goods are with a local forwarder but not yet scanned internationally. In that case, ask for the forwarder’s company name, warehouse receipt, photos of carton labels, and planned departure date. If the supplier refuses, there may be no cargo movement at all.
For another example of deadline control, review the Trade Assurance deadline checklist. DDPexpert’s China sourcing workflow also shows where shipping proof should sit in the order file.
Final recommendation
A tracking number is useful only when it connects to real movement. If goods have not been accepted by a carrier, preserve the dispute window and request hard pickup evidence before trusting the shipment status.
